Erika Kothe (born August 4, 1960 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) has been professor for microbial communication at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena since 2012 .

Scientific career

In 1984 Kothe obtained a diploma in biology from the University of Marburg . She then worked there as a research assistant until 1989 and was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow with a DFG grant at the University of Vermont (1989–1990) and the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (1990–1991). From 1991 she worked again as a research assistant at the University of Marburg and completed her habilitation there in 1997 in the subjects of genetics and mycology . In 1997 she was offered a professorship at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and initially held a professorship for microbial phytopathology . Since 2012 she has been a professor for microbial communication in Jena. Her work focuses on cross-breeding systems for white rot fungi , symbiotic interactions between fungus and plants as well as soil microbiology in locations exposed to heavy metals .
