The Erlenhofsiedlung is a residential complex in the north of the Mannheim district Neckarstadt-West . With its 51 houses and 393 apartments, it is considered to be one of the first major projects for social housing in Germany . The Erlenhofsiedlung was built in the years 1926-27 as the first construction project of the non-profit building company Mannheim (GBG), which had been jointly founded by the municipality and the municipal savings bank, to alleviate the housing shortage at that time according to the plans of the Mannheim architect Ferdinand Mündel in the style of New Objectivity . Because of their modern equipment, green courtyards with fountains and affordable rents, the apartments were very popular at the time.

Destruction of individual elements by the Second World War was z. Some of them were rebuilt in a modified form by 1953, but the character of the complex was retained. After modernization in the 1970s, the entire residential complex was renovated from 2004 to 2007. Since the approx. 50 buildings have been under monument protection since the year 2000 , the facade was restored according to the historical model.

The Erlenhof youth center and the adventure playground also belong to the settlement.
