Erriapus (mythology)
Erriapus or Erriapo is the name of a Gallic deity . It can be found on some dedicatory inscriptions from Saint-Béat ( Lugdunum Convenarum , Roman province of Gallia Aquitania ) in southwest Gaul. Its depiction as a (horned) head looking out of a crown of leaves suggests a connection with trees (see also Silvanus ). According to the Interpretatio Romana , however, he is rather equated with Mercurius .
The Saturn moon Erriapus , newly discovered in November 2000, was named after this deity.
