The neoclassical extension of the regional and district court on Sovetsky Prospect 1 (formerly Stresemannstrasse ) in Kaliningrad is now used by the Kaliningrad State Technical University . The building is a listed building .

Location and surroundings

The building was erected on the former Hansaplatz, today's Ploschtschad Pobedy . The building is flanked by the building of the former trading courtyard (now the town hall) and the former north station . Other historical buildings in the area are the baroque old building of the rural and district court building (today also used by the university), the former police headquarters (today FSB ) and the former building of the Oberpostdirektion (today the General Staff of the Baltic Fleet ). Hansaplatz got its "final face with the completion of the court extension building (1931)."

history

The building, which was erected between 1929 and 1931, was the second phase of the regional and district court building. Before that, the court prison had been built between 1927 and 1929, and the extension of the men's wing was not completed until 1931 to 1933. The building was built according to plans by the structural engineering department of the Prussian Ministry of Finance and the government in Königsberg in a special department under the direction of government building officer Georg Lesser (1889–1963).

The facade shows 23 window axes, the window height decreases slightly upwards. The building corners are rounded. The entrance zone occupies five window axes and shows a pillar and frame construction that includes an open vestibule. From inside there is a wide view over the vestibule to pl. Pobedy. In the rear part of this open vestibule in the entrance area, a glass wall closes off the higher-lying large hall inside the house. The great hall is an elongated hall and is adorned by pillars with "faintly indicated capital decorations ". The stair area also shows "economical jewelry."
