Archdiocese of Chongqing
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chongqing (Latin Archidioecesis Ciomchimensis ) located in the People's Republic of China was founded on April 2, 1856 as the Apostolic Vicariate Se-Ciuen and changed its name to Chungking on December 3, 1924. The office is in Chongqing .
When it was elevated to an archbishopric on April 11, 1946, the 350,000 km² diocese in 1950 had 37,608 Catholics (0.3%) in 42 parishes with 42 diocesan priests , 6 friars and 114 religious sisters.
The archbishop is metropolitan of the dioceses of Chengdu , Kangding , Kiating , Xichang , Nanchong , Yibin , Wanzhou . Today the Archdiocese is sede vacante .
