The Escambray Mountains are located in central Cuba , south of Santa Clara . The highest point of the Macizo de Guamuhaya mountain range is Mount San Juan with a height of 1156 meters above sea level .

In addition to pine forests and pastureland , there is extremely species-rich tropical vegetation to be found here; Royal palms also thrive in the lowlands .
Tourism and economy
The sparsely populated Escambray Mountains are particularly interesting for tourism because of their central location on the Antilles island . The Hanabanilla reservoir is not only a popular destination for anglers, it also supplies the economic centers of Santa Clara , Cienfuegos and Trinidad with energy.
