The Eselsbrunnen stands on the edge of the old town of Eisenach in the Goethe Garden near the city wall .

history

The Laufbrunnen was created in 1986 by the Eisenach art blacksmith Günther Laufer and set up in the garden of the Eisenach town hall . In the run-up to the renovation and expansion of the town hall, the fountain was moved and has been located not far from Palais Bechtolsheim on the former city wall since June 1992 .

Due to corrosion damage , the fountain was decommissioned in 2018, dismantled in autumn 2019 and restored by the city's building yard. It received new water pipes and, in some cases, a new center column as well as a powder coating to protect against renewed corrosion .
