The Esnault-Pelterie REP 1 was an early French monoplane from 1907 .

The Frenchman Robert Esnault-Pelterie constructed his first powered airplane with this type. The machine was a monoplane with a pull propeller , which flew for the first time on October 22, 1907 in a field near Buc .

The REP 1 had no vertical tail , negative V-position of the wide-span wings (with support wheels at the end of the wing) and had very poor lateral and longitudinal stability , as the designer did without a vertical tail and the transverse control was carried out via wing twisting - but only downwards. The engine was not fully developed and was struggling with cooling problems. The longest flight was over 600 meters. A year later the successor, the REP 2, was constructed; this time the machine had a vertical tail.

Esnault-Pelterie founded the company REP , which later supplied monoplane for the French and Turkish air forces in the First World War .
