The Esparragalejo Dam was a Roman multi- arch dam in Esparragalejo in Extremadura ( Spain ). In the 1st century AD The structure erected in BC is considered to be the oldest dam of this type.

The barrier structure is constructed as a multi-arch dam , that is, damming the water with a sequence of arches arched against the direction of flow. Twelve supporting pillars serve as abutments for the arches, which are in the shape of a segment of a circle and strengthen the dam wall with a center distance of 8.20 meters on the side facing away from the water. The wall itself is 2.20 meters thick at the base and has a height of 5.60 meters. The total length of the crown is 320 meters, but only part of it is taken up by the multiple arch construction. The system was used to regulate irrigation. The reservoir is fed by the Arroyo de Albucia in the Guadiana catchment area .

The dam was rebuilt in 1959.
