The Esplanadi Park

Esplanadi ( Swedish. Esplanaden ) is the common name of two parallel streets and a park in between in downtown Helsinki , the capital of Finland . In common parlance, the facility, which is one of the city's attractions, is called "Espa".

The road to the north is officially called Pohjoisesplanadi (Swedish: Norra esplanaden ), while the one to the south is called Eteläesplanadi (Swedish: Södra esplanaden ). Especially the Pohjoisesplanadi, together with the Aleksanterinkatu one block further to the north, is the most popular promenade in the city. At the western end of Esplanadi is the Swedish Theater (Svenska teatern) , at the east end is the Havis Amanda statue , Kauppatori market square and Helsinki southern harbor. In the middle of the park there is also a famous statue of the Finnish national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg .

The park, which opened in 1812, is very lively in the summer as it is a popular destination for picnic fans, among other things. In addition, concerts are regularly held on a specially designed open-air stage.
