history

In 1913 13 independent Swedish companies in the graphic sector merged to form SLT ( Sveriges Litografiska Tryckerier ). The company grew through numerous company takeovers and soon offered products based on paper. In the 1960s, SLT consisted of an overwhelming number of business areas. Therefore, a drastic restructuring began in 1964. Similar businesses were merged and unprofitable companies were sold.

On August 1, 1970, the group of companies was renamed Esselte (eSeLTe) and began to focus on office products. A first step in this direction was the takeover of Benson's International Systems Ltd , the world's largest manufacturer of ring binders. Further purchases followed in the next few years: Oxford Pendaflex Corp. in 1976 . - an American manufacturer of hanging file systems -, in 1978 DYMO Industries Inc. - manufacturer of embossing devices and price labeling systems - and in 1998 Germany's largest manufacturer of products for office supplies, Leitz .

In 2002 the US acquired private equity -Unternehmen JW Childs 97% of the voting shares of Esselte. In 2005, Esselte sold DYMO labeling company to Newell Rubbermaid , a global consumer goods company, for approximately $ 730 million. With the proceeds from the sale, Esselte wanted to reduce debts and concentrate more on the areas of organization systems, office supplies and artisan supplies.

In 2016, JW Childs sold its shares in Esselte to the American Acco Brands .
