The Essen Association of Immigrant Associations was founded in 2000. As an umbrella organization , 74 immigrant organizations from over 20 nations are currently affiliated to it. The chairmanship of the association is exercised by Muhammet Balaban. As a cooperation partner of the city of Essen , the association receives institutional funding with the aim of supporting cultural, social and migration policy measures of its member associations.

history

On November 23, 2000, the Association of Immigrant Associations in Essen eV was founded on the initiative of the City of Essen's Foreigners' Advisory Council, now the Integration Council. With the resolution of the general meeting on May 7, 2005, the name of the association was changed to the Essen Association of Immigrant Associations. This should confirm the affiliation to the city of Essen.

Since the establishment of the Essen Association, the number of members has risen continuously. 74 migrant self-organizations are currently housed in the umbrella organization. (As of April 2014)

Projects

In addition to supporting projects by member associations, other organizations and institutions, the Essen Association of Immigrant Associations also independently conducts its own projects. These are currently mainly in the field of youth and parent education , violence and crime prevention and placement of young people in training and work.

Not without my parents

In the period from November 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010, the Essen Association of Immigrant Associations eV ran the project “Not without my parents, young people with a migration background and their parents as partners, in close cooperation with the School-Job Transition Management Department of the Essen School Administration in the transition from school / work / studies ”.

The project was funded by the city of Essen for the concept for intercultural work. The project was scientifically accompanied by the social scientist Doris Beer.

Active participation of immigrant families in violence and crime prevention

In the period from August 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010, the project “Active participation of immigrant families in violence and crime prevention” was carried out with actors in violence and crime prevention, relevant institutions and representatives of migrant self-organizations. The content and aim of the project was to deepen the dialogue and cooperation between the participants. The project was funded by the Ministry for Generations, Family, Women and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Youth.Start

Since April 2008, the Essen Association of Immigrant Associations eV has been running the project “jugend.start - Essen Young Migrants in Training and Work”. The aim of the project is to improve the professional situation of young people with a migration background as well as the integration of young people in training or work subject to social insurance.

The project is funded by the Essen Job Center . The cooperation partner is the Essen Employment Agency .
