The Estadio Eva Perón in Junín , a city with a population of around 89,000 today, located in the province of Buenos Aires in central Argentina , opened on July 9, 1951. At the opening, a tournament was held in which the future user club CA Sarmiento met CA Vélez Sársfield and a little later CA River Plate and the then reigning Argentinian champions Racing Club played against each other. Since 1951, the Estadio Eva Perón has been used by the CA Sarmiento football club as a venue for home games. The club, founded in 1911, played a few seasons in Argentina's top football league, the Primera División . They played first-class from 1981 to 1982 and have been promoted again since 2015. This means that the Estadio Eva Perón is currently also a first division stadium in Argentina. It should be noted that Sarmiento was only approved for league operations in 1952, as a stadium was previously missing. After the Estadio Eva Perón was built, this obstacle was removed and the club was allowed to take part in league competitions. In addition to Sarmiento, the Liga Deportiva del Oeste, a small amateur club from Junín, also used the Estadio Eva Perón for home games for some time in the past.

The Estadio Eva Perón now has a capacity of 22,000 spectators. The playing field is comparatively small with an area of 100 × 67. The sports facility is named after Eva Perón . The wife of the Argentine President Juan Perón was born in a small village near Junín and grew up on the outskirts of the city. The newly opened stadium in Junín was named after Eva Perón while she was still alive. However, she died of complications from cancer at the age of 33, just over a year after it opened.
