Princess Esther Kamatari (born November 30, 1951 in Giheta , Kingdom of Burundi ) is a member of the former Burundian royal family and founder of a children's aid organization in Burundi.

Life

Esther Kamatari spent her childhood in the Kingdom of Burundi . After the murder of her father, Prince Kamatari, and the fall of the monarchy in 1966, Princess Esther fled to France , where she began a successful career as a model . There she was the first African top model to be seen on the Paris catwalks.

Today Esther Kamatari lives in Paris with her two children Jade and Arthur, but travels very often to Burundi. She was a candidate in Burundi's 2005 presidential election .

She is the sister of Baudouine Kamatari (* 1957), coordinator of the Desertification Program for the Environment Liaison Center International (ELCI) in Nairobi , Kenya.

After the war between Hutu and Tutsi in 1993, Kamatari got involved with the orphans of Burundi and founded the children's charity Un enfant par Rugo in Burundi. The princess also looks after the association of her Burundian compatriots in France.

Works

In 2001 she published her autobiography Princesse des Rugo, mon histoire, which was also published in German in 2003 under the title Princess of the Orphans .
