Estraperlo

Estraperlo is a term used today in Spanish for illegal business practices and the black market and originated in the Second Spanish Republic when an electrically powered roulette game was introduced under the name "Stra-Perlo", named after the owners of the game, the Dutch Gambling operators Strauss and Perlowitz was named.

In order to obtain the license to introduce this game of chance, which is banned in the country of origin, in the casino of San Sebastian , leading politicians or their relatives were bribed, among them Aurelio Lerroux, the nephew and adopted son of the then Prime Minister Alejandro Lerroux and the Minister of the Interior Rafael Salazar Alonso, both members the Radical Party .
