Eswatini Railways , until 2018 Swaziland Railway or Swazi Rail , is the state railway company of the Kingdom of Eswatini .

description

Eswatini Railways maintains a route network of 301 kilometers in length, consisting of the west-east route opened in 1964, which now runs from Matsapha Industrial Site near Manzini to Goba on the border with Mozambique , and a route from the direction of Durban and Richards Bay in South Africa leads in a south-north direction to Komatipoort , which is also in South Africa.

The Eswatini Railways routes have a gauge of 1067 mm ( Cape gauge ). Eswatini Railways does not operate passenger services, but the South African railway company Transnet uses part of the network for passing passenger trains .

With Swazilink , a new route from Davel through Eswatini to Richards Bay is to be created for freight traffic. This project, which is still in the planning and preparation phase (as of 2020), requires a 100 km new line within Eswatini from the Eswatin border town of Sandlane to Sidvokodvo , where it is to be coupled to the existing line from Matsapha.
