Etang Discher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Etang Discher (* 1908 ; † 20th or 21st century), also known as Nena Discher, was the daughter of a German and a Filipino woman of Spanish descent, was a Filipino actress .

She began her career in the choir of the Bodabil stage shows by the Filipino singer Katy de la Cruz. She was often cast for evil roles. Her stern, sinister Castilian face appeared in many Filipino prewar films, most of which were presented in the manner of soap operas . She was the woman with whom the Filipino cinema audience liked to let their feelings of hatred run free in the films; she often played an angry aunt or mother-in-law or even a witch . While her roles weren't a good premise for becoming a star with audiences, she nonetheless became a famous (or infamous) star in Filipino cinema. Many of her films were produced by Sampaguita Pictures , the film studio she had under contract for a significant period of her career.

Discher's son, Panchito Alba (actually Alfonso D. Tagle) (1925–1995), became a famous film comedian . Usually he was cast as the counterpart to comedian Dolphy .
