The EthnoFilmfest Berlin has been a film festival that has been taking place since 1996 , which provides insights into foreign and German culture with young feature, documentary, short, animation and experimental films.

The film festival is held annually in the filmbuehne-museum, the cinema of the Ethnological Museum Berlin . In contrast to pure documentary film festivals, the EthnoFilmfest prefers films that report on other European and non-European cultures and that were made in the cultures themselves.

history

With one exception, the festival has taken place every year since 1996 and is one of the largest ethnological film festivals with 70 to 120 films presented each year . Since 2005, the program of the EthnoFilmfest has been reduced from 10 days to 4. Changing country and thematic focuses shape the main program and offer an insight into the diversity of the international OFF cinema. Since its inception, students of anthropology have been involved in the organization. The 10th EthnoFilmfest took place in November 2007.

competition

The EthnoFilmfest has been awarding a jury award and an audience award since 1997. The aim of the competition is to develop foreign cultural films for the European market. Numerous young film artists, ethnographers and directors are invited to come into contact with the audience.

Supporting program

The film program is accompanied by exhibitions, workshops, music and dance performances that are directly related to the films shown or the focus.
