history

The historical warehouse belonging to the museum was built before 1848 according to the design of Franciszek Turnelle, the then city architect of Włocławek. In the years 1980–1985, a new part was added which is architecturally reminiscent of its building. Here is a room for temporary exhibitions, an audiovisual room, a library, work and office space.

On October 10, 1986 the museum was officially opened together with the permanent exhibition “Folk Culture of Kujawy and Dobrin Land. Selected Issues ”and the special exhibition“ Contemporary Folk Art from Kujawy and Dobriner Land ”. In 1987 the museum received the second degree award in the “Museum Event of the Year 1986” competition for the opening and permanent exhibition, and in 1988 it was awarded for the exhibition after the “Contemporary Regional Clothing” competition in the “Museum Event of the Year 1988” competition.

From 2011 to 2014, renovation and modernization works were carried out on six buildings in the museum complex: the renovation of interiors, the thorough renovation of the courtyard and the adaptation of attics and basements to the needs of the museum and library collections. In 2015 a laboratory for digitization and reprography was opened in the museum building .

In 2016 the museum celebrated 30 years of activity. In those 30 years the museum had organized almost 100 special exhibitions and 37 traveling exhibitions. The museum's collection was expanded to include 5729 items. Włocławek residents attended over 100 prepared events.
