Ethylene copolymer bitumen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ethylene - copolymer - bitumen ( abbreviation ECB ) according to DIN 16729, is the material name for a black-colored mixture based on high-quality polyethylene copolymers with different proportions of special and various amorphous bitumen qualities. The type-specific bitumen is incorporated homogeneously in the polymer matrix and can thus be processed as free-flowing granules on conventional plastics processing plants.

Properties and use

In ECB, the positive properties of polyolefins are combined with bitumen. The embedded bitumen part acts as a softener and as an internal lubricant. ECB is characterized by good toughness, high biaxial elasticity and flexibility even at low temperatures. A special stabilization gives ECB excellent resistance to heat aging and UV rays. ECB is not only largely weather and aging resistant, but also thermally stable.

Application areas:

  • Roofing and sealing membranes for: tunnels, landfills, water retention basins, dikes
  • Extrudates for protection against cold and moisture
  • Construction films, lamination films, composite films
  • Polymer modification of bitumen, bitumen modification of polymers
  • robust, long-lasting injection molded parts for building accessories, wheels, shingles, feet
  • Coatings, e.g. B. for pipes, steel and water tanks as corrosion protection
  • Cable protection
  • Vibration damping z. B. by profiled foils / bandages
