Ethylene group
In organic chemistry, an ethylene group , also known as an ethylene radical, is a double-bonded organic radical, i.e. the atomic group –C 2 H 4 -. Examples of compounds with an ethylene group as a structural motif are 1,2-disubstituted ethane derivatives, such as ethylene dibromide or ethylene diamine, which are now usually treated with the clear names such as 1,2-dibromoethane.
The technically important plastics polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) often contain the structural motif of an ethylene group.
