Etioplasts (from French étiolé “pale” and ancient Greek πλαστός plastós “shaped”) are cell organelles in biology . These plastids are chloroplasts that have not been exposed to light and in which, due to the lack of light, the inner membrane structure has changed and the chlorophyll has receded or not yet formed. When exposed to light , they develop into chloroplasts. The thylakoids are then also formed, the membranes of which contain the chlorophylls necessary for photosynthesis .
