The Eufaula Lake is a reservoir in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The lake covers an area of 412 km² and is mainly fed by the Canadian River . The body of water got its name from the nearby town of Eufaula .
history
Eufaula Lake is dammed by the Eufaula Dam , the construction of which began by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1956. The construction was done for reasons of flood protection, to guarantee the water supply of the region and to use the hydropower to generate electrical energy. In 1964 the dam was completed and inaugurated by US President Lyndon B. Johnson . The lake created by the damming is used today for local recreation.
