Iams is a registered dog and cat food brand owned by Procter & Gamble . The brand became part of Procter & Gamble in September 1999.

history

Animal feed manufacturer Paul Iams founded the Iams Company in 1946 in a small feed mill in Dayton , Ohio , United States. Clay Mathile became a member of Iams in 1970 and acquired the company in 1982. He laid the foundation for today's global sales of Iams dog and cat food.

In September 1999, Jeffrey Ansell became President of Iams Company and arranged for it to be acquired by Procter & Gamble. In February 2001, Ansell got a senior position at Procter & Gamble and thereby also became president of the company in the sales of animal feed worldwide.

After Procter & Gamble sold its production facility in South Dakota to Menu Foods in 2003 , this company is the exclusive manufacturer of wet food for “Iams” (brands “IAMS”, “Eukanuba” and others).

Products

Iams produces dry and moist pouched food for cats, which are produced according to three age groups.

  • Kitten & Junior 1–12 months
  • Adult 1-6 years
  • Senior & Mature from 7 years

criticism

Iams is attacked by the US organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA for short) and In Defense of Animals for unnecessary animal experiments , which were carried out on behalf of Iams by private and university laboratories until 2006. According to PETA u. a. Dogs have had their vocal cords cut. Iams said at the time that these experiments were necessary to find out more about animal nutrition and allergies that the food could possibly trigger.
