The Owl Tower is a vantage point in the Göttingen Forest immediately east of the built-up area of the city of Göttingen in the Oststadt district . It is located on the lower slope of the Hainberg above the Schillerwiese on a ridge between the Molkengrund valleys in the north and Lange Nacht in the south. The round tower built into the slope with a viewing platform made of limestone and sandstone is around 4 meters high. The ground-level tower entrance in the front area was walled up for security reasons. The Owl Tower was built at the end of the 19th century by the Göttingen Beautification Association as part of the design of the Hainberg as a recreation area in the style of a public garden .
