EuroShop
The Euro Shop is a since 1966 held fair for investment goods trade. It is held every three years on the Messe Düsseldorf site and is considered the leading trade fair in the industry worldwide. The ideal sponsor of the fair is EHI Retail Institute .
history
The first EuroShop took place from June 11th to 15th, 1966 on the old exhibition grounds in the courtyard of honor . 331 exhibitors from 55 countries were represented. Around 29,000 trade visitors were guests and primarily obtained information on the subject of shopfitting , which dominated the first events. The “Modern Shops and Shop Windows” congress took place at the same time. Fundamental changes in the retail landscape were the impetus for founding EuroShop. From the mid-1960s onwards, self-service concepts had increasingly prevailed, especially in the food retail sector. At the same time, with the first discounters, new retail concepts competed with the traditionally brand-oriented supermarkets. As a result of these developments, retailers have an increasing need for opportunities to sharpen their own profile through measures, especially in shop fitting.
Until 1972 the EuroShop took place every two years. From 1975 onwards there was a three-year cycle. By the end of the 1990s, there were other offers for shop fitting that were of increasing importance for retail companies. Among them were z. B. Display advertising, lighting or exhibition stand construction. Due to the rapid development in information technology, IT, merchandise management and monitoring systems, article security and supply chain management were added, the life cycles of which were significantly shorter than the traditional offer at the fair. The trade fair responded to this with the creation of the “Retail Technology Forum”, which took place annually. It was part of EuroShop every three years. In 2002 EuroShop was fundamentally restructured. The fair was divided into four areas:
- EuroConcept (shopfitting, store design, lighting, refrigeration units, building technology)
- EuroSales (visual merchandising, POS marketing, display advertising)
- EuroExpo (architecture, design, events)
- EuroCIS (IT and security technology)
The newly created EuroCIS replaced the Retail Technology Forum. In 2014 there were already 2,229 exhibitors on 120,603 m² and recorded 109,496 visitors from 100 countries.
In 2015, with the C-star - Shanghai's International Trade Fair for Solutions and Trends all about Retail - a first offshoot of EuroShop was created abroad. In May 2016, 180 companies from 18 countries exhibited at the C-star. 7,600 trade visitors from 77 nations attended the trade fair. The C-star takes place annually.
