The European Writers' Community COMES was an association of European writers .

The European writers' community COMES was founded around 1960 as an association of progressive Western and Eastern European writers, who endeavored to reach an understanding of all progressive European writers on the basis of anti-fascism . In 1970 COMES had around 1400 members. Its president was Giuseppe Ungaretti . Ingeborg Bachmann and Hans Magnus Enzensberger were elected to the board as representatives of German-speaking authors .
