European firearms pass

The European firearms pass right after the weapons policy of the European Union (91/477 / EEC), firearms to another Member State of the European Union (EU) and the Schengen agreement not to take, however, to acquire or possess.

In Germany, the basis for issuing is Section 32, Paragraph 6 of the Weapons Act (WaffG). The pass is issued by the responsible arms authority in the districts.

In Austria it is issued by the district administrative authority.

In addition, the import or transit of weapons must be approved by the authorities of the other EU member state. Exceptions have been approved for sport shooters , hunters and traditional shooters . You can take with you:

  • Hunters: up to three long guns and the ammunition intended for the purpose of hunting,
  • Sport shooters: up to six sporting weapons and the ammunition intended for them for the purpose of shooting sports,
  • Traditional shooters: up to three single-shot or repeating long guns and the ammunition intended for them to participate in a traditional event.

Note: For the acquisition and possession of firearms of category B is a weapons permit and guiding in Germany also a firearms license or into Austria weapons passport required.

The European Firearms Pass is valid for five years and can be extended twice for five years each time.
