Europaplatz (Aachen)
The Europaplatz in Aachen , North Rhine-Westphalia, is a fake roundabout on the border between the north and east quarters, characterized by the fountain there .
A striking feature is Aachen's largest fountain in the middle of the roundabout, with its fountains illuminated at night , which welcomes travelers coming from Cologne , the Netherlands or Belgium to the center of Aachen , except in winter . In addition, the flags of the European Union and its member states are raised around the fountain .
The federal motorway 544 coming from the Aachen motorway junction and the street Europaplatz join the roundabout . Joseph-von-Görres-Straße also joins the roundabout and continues on the opposite side. The roundabout belongs to federal highway 1 and federal highway 264 . South-east of the roundabout is the Europahochhaus (formerly Iduna- Hochhaus), which has 302 condominiums.
From August 24, 2015 to September 7, 2015, Europaplatz was completely closed for renovation work.
At the Fridays for Future demo on September 20, 2019 , the Artists for Future Aachen group staged the climate package negotiations in the fountain under the eyes of 8,000 demonstrators from the Fridays for Future movement .
