The European Association for Biometrics (EAB) is a non-profit association based in Bussum , the Netherlands , which promotes the development of biometric processes and their appropriate use in Europe .

history

The company was founded on November 17th, 2011 in Darmstadt on the premises of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics and emerged from the Biometric European Stakeholders Network (BEST Network) project , which was funded by the European Commission in the 7th Research Framework Program . The statutes of EAB were based on the model of CAST eV . 14 institutions from 10 different European nations were involved in the establishment. The interests of the members are represented by the board.

control

EAB is a membership-based association in which institutions and companies as well as natural persons from all over Europe are organized. More than 200 members are now active in EAB (as of March 2017) . The association is an active network with national contact persons in most European countries. The general assembly annually confirms the board that represents the association externally. An advisory board (the EAB Advisory Board) made up of high-ranking members of the community advises the board on strategic issues.

In special interest groups, committees and working groups on various topics, members have the opportunity to discuss current topics. The results are summarized in position papers or white papers and made available to the public for further discussion.

activities

EAB organizes numerous conferences, seminars and workshops. Every year in September, the association organizes the European Research Projects Conference (EAB-RPC) , on two days of which projects funded by the European Commission in its research framework program are presented in which biometric processes play a role.

To promote the next generation, the association awards both a research award and an industry award every year. Outstanding doctoral theses are presented and awarded by a selected jury.
