from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Family Therapy Association (EFTA) was officially founded in 1990 - as an initiative of the European Family Therapy Network , an informal association of family therapists who have met at various conferences since 1983 and came together in 1986. In the first years of its existence, the EFTA could only join individual members from Europe and Israel ; since the Budapest Conference in 2001, the organization has three chambers:

  • Chamber of Individual Members (CIM), the chamber for individual members (currently around 900 family therapists from 29 countries)
  • Chamber of National Associations (NFTO), the chamber for national organizations (currently 26 institutions)
  • Chamber of Training Institutes (TIC), the chamber for training institutions

The chambers are currently headed by Malvina Tsounaki (Greece), Monica Whyte (Ireland) and Mony Elkaim (Belgium). EFTA aims to network systemic and family therapists across Europe , to establish quality standards and ethical guidelines, to improve acceptance, training and access to family therapy and to promote relevant research.

The association is based in Brussels .
