European Federation of Energy Traders

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET), the association of European energy traders, was founded in Amsterdam in 1999.

The sub-association EFET Germany - Association of German Gas and Electricity Traders eV , based in Berlin-Mitte, was founded in 2001 because associations based abroad were not allowed to participate in the association agreement at the time . EFET is the umbrella organization for the standardization of cross-border trade by energy suppliers, in particular gas and electricity trading . For this purpose, uniform framework agreements are drawn up, on the basis of which formats for electronic invoicing (with ebXML ) were established, as well as processes for the automatic clearing of trading goods. The objectives are the development of a pan-European internal market for energy and related products and the facilitation of trade through Europe-wide harmonization of market rules. EFET advocates the removal of barriers to market entry, unhindered, non-discriminatory access to the supply networks and against the abuse of dominant positions. EFET has no commercial interests.

EFETnet

In 2002, the EFET Association launched an initiative for Europe-wide computerized energy trading, which in 2004 led to the establishment of the Dutch subsidiary EFETnet BV (GmbH), which provides the computer backbone for European energy traders. 80 energy traders from 20 countries, who have invested 3 million euros (as of 2009), are involved in the EFETnet. Another 17 companies are associated with EFETnet and a further 50 energy traders implement parts of the EFETnet processes. The estimated turnover in EFETnet-supported European electricity and gas trading in 2005 was over 600 billion euros.
