European Green Cars Initiative

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Commission has the tendering of the first stage of the European on 30 July 2009 Initiative Green Cars (EGCI) published. The aim is to promote research and development in the field of safe, efficient and environmentally friendly mobility, in particular electromobility and the technologies and infrastructures required for it. The cross-sectional initiative is being implemented jointly by all the relevant directorates-general (research, information and media society, transport and energy, environment, companies) as a public-private partnership (PPP) and has additional funding totaling EUR 500 million. Around 108 million euros of this will go into the first stage of the tenders. In implementing the initiative, the European Commission is being advised by an ad-hoc Industrial Advisory Group, which includes members of the European technology platforms ERTRAC, EPoSS and SmartGrids as well as representatives from the logistics industry. In addition to its advisory activities, this Advisory Group organizes expert workshops together with the European Commission, e. B. on the subject of batteries and has drawn up a roadmap of European industry.

More than 80 projects are currently being implemented in the course of the EGCI, some of which have already been completed and their results have been published.

Funding priorities

The focus of funding is on key technologies and components for electric vehicles. Topics are:

  • Materials, technologies and processes for electro-chemical energy storage
  • Electrical machines, auxiliary units, range extenders (Raxtender), integration of energy storage devices, vehicle concepts
  • Increases in efficiency, safety and electrical architecture of electric vehicles
  • Demonstration projects
