European Society of Gynecological Oncology
The European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO) is a Europe-wide association of doctors and scientists who specialize in the research, prevention, treatment and care of gynecological cancer. The association, which has more than 1400 members from over 40 European countries, was founded in Venice in 1983 .
task
The purpose of the ESGO is to “promote communication with scientific and professional associations, with the aim of establishing a dynamic and democratic European platform for collegial cooperation between specialists and members of the medical professions. Further goals are to establish contacts, impart knowledge and improve the quality in gynecological oncology at European level. "
Field of activity
More than 1500 participants meet regularly at the ESGO conference, which takes place every two years. It provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals and scientists from across Europe working in the field of gynecological oncology to contact, discuss, discuss and disseminate new medical and scientific studies in gynecological oncology. In addition to its conferences, ESGO also organizes numerous advanced training events, workshops and meetings all year round and awards travel grants to its members.
ESGO is also involved in the creation of educational materials such as videos, DVDs and lectures for doctors that are broadcast over the Internet.
Within ESGO, the European Network of Gynecological Oncological Trial Groups (ENGOT) deals with the Europe-wide coordination and funding of clinical studies on patients suffering from gynecological cancer.
Training and accreditation
In cooperation with the "European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (EBCOG)" and on behalf of the European Medical Association (UEMS), ESGO offers certification for trained gynecological oncologists and accredits appropriate training facilities.
ESGO's training and accreditation programs for gynecological oncology are recognized standards in a number of European countries.
journal
The official scientific organ of ESGO, the "International Journal of Gynecological Cancer (IJGC)", appears every two months and deals with topics related to gynecological cancer, such as experimental studies, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, diagnostic methods, pathology, epidemiology and surgery.
