The European Stroke Conference (ESC) is an international, scientific stroke conference.

history

In 1990 Michael Hennerici (Germany) and Julien Bogousslavky (Switzerland) founded the ESC. Up until that point there was only the North American Conference for clinical researchers, basic researchers and for scientists who deal scientifically and clinically with stroke.

The first ESC took place in 1990 in Düsseldorf . After further conferences in 1992 in Lausanne and 1994 in Stockholm with increasing numbers of participants, the European Stroke Conference was held annually from 1995 in Bordeaux .

The ESC publishes the journal Cerebrovascular Diseases . The Johann Jacob Wepfer Award has been presented annually by the European Stroke Conference to an outstanding scientist in the field of stroke research since 2005 .
