European Union of Private Higher Education

The European Union of Private Higher Education ( EUPHE for short , German European Union for Private Higher Education ) is the umbrella association of European private universities with headquarters in Brussels.

It represents the interests of private universities and colleges at European level. It is registered in the Bureau Sécuritè Juridique de Bruxelles as an international non-profit association under Belgian law under No. 4.871.

history

The EUPHE was founded in June 2018 by the associations of private universities in Germany (VPH), France (UGEI and UNFL), Austria (ÖPUK), Portugal (APESP) and Spain (AEEN). In 2020 the Association of Irish Private Universities (HECA) and the SWPS from Poland joined. In total, EUPHE currently represents over 450 private universities from these countries. The founding president from 2018–2020 was the Frenchman Jean-Michel Nicolle. The current president for the period 2020–2022 is the German Klaus Hekking .

tasks

The EUPHE's statutory task is to create favorable framework conditions for non-governmental universities and colleges in Europe

  • Exchange of experiences and best practices;
  • Drafting joint opinions on political debates in Europe on higher education;
  • Interventions with the European Union, the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and other international organizations related to education;
  • Observation of the development of education policy in the higher education sector in the countries of Europe, its results as well as European initiatives in this area;

EUPHE advocates the implementation of the right to found and operate non-state universities in all EU member states guaranteed by Art. 13, 14 Paragraph 3 and 16 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union
