European Working Group of People with Dementia

The European Working Group of People with Dementia is a group of people with dementia whose task it is to ensure that the perspectives of people with dementia are adequately and appropriately represented at events, programs and publications of the NGO Alzheimer Europe (based in Luxembourg) .

History and tasks

The European Working Group of People with Dementia is one of the few groups or organizations worldwide in which only people with dementia represent the interests of people with dementia. The group to which Alzheimer Europe belongs was founded in 2012. It is based on the principles of the initiative of in 2002 James McKillop founded Scottish Dementia Working Group . Helga Rohra , a German dementia activist who received the German Engagement Prize 2015, is a member of the group. She was nominated by the German Alzheimer's Society from 2012 to 2016, and has represented the Romanian Alzheimer's Society since 2018.
