The European Young Chemists' Network ( EYCN ) brings together the young chemists of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS), in fact all chemists under 35 who belong to a European member society. The EYCN is for the EuChemS what the JCF is for the GDCh .

history

The EYCN was founded in 2006. The idea arose from several meetings of young scientists in Europe . On August 31, 2006, the foundation was sealed during the first European Chemistry Congress (ECC) in Budapest under the title "Aims, tasks and purposes of the EYCN". In March 2007 Jens Breffke ( Germany ) and Csaba Janáky ( Hungary ) invited all companies to send their young representatives to Berlin to set the rules of the EYCN, which were later confirmed by the EuChemS board. In the years that followed, the EYCN was able to reach almost all young chemists of the European Chemical Society to exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas.

organization

The EYCN has a board of directors with four individual teams (Members, Network, Science and Communication) who have specific responsibilities, and each team is led by a team leader. As one of the most active divisions of EuChemS, the main goal of the EYCN is to support students and young researchers through prizes (best poster and lecture prizes, the European Young Chemist Award, EYCA) and exchange programs, among others. a. as part of the Young Chemists Crossing Borders (YCCB) program with the USA. The EYCN also organizes symposia and workshops for young chemists, among others. a. the European Young Chemists Meeting (EYCheM), which will take place in March 2019 together with the JCF Spring Symposium in Bremen.

The EYCN successfully cooperates with other networks in Europe and beyond. It has established a particularly active collaboration with the young chemists of the American Chemical Society (ACS-YCC) and also cooperates with the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN). In addition to the parent company EuChemS, the EYCN has been supported by Evonik Industries for many years .
