Plant protection organization for Europe and the Mediterranean
The Plant Protection Organization for Europe and the Mediterranean Area ( EPPO ) is an international organization for cooperation between European countries in the field of plant protection . The short form EPPO stands as an abbreviation for the English name European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization .
The EPPO was founded on November 30, 1955 by initially 15 states. Today it has 50 members (as of March 2014). The permanent headquarters are in Paris . The EPPO is subject to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), which was passed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at its 6th session in 1951.
The EPPO manages the EPPO codes .
