Evald Smitt was an Estonian football player and train driver .
Career
For the Estonian national team Evald Smitt came in July 1940 for an international match against Latvia in Tallinn . A month earlier, the Soviet government had given Estonia an ultimatum and then occupied it. One month after the international match, on August 16 of the same year, the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic (Estonian SSR) was proclaimed and thus annexed by the Soviet Union . In 1940 Smitt was still active for the Tallinna JK in the Estonian Championship. In 1943 he was Estonian champion with JS Estonia Tallinn .
He was a train driver for the Estonian State Railways . During the Soviet annexation in World War II, he was of major importance in the transportation of the Red Army .
