The Evangelical Church in Korschenbroich

The Evangelical Church in Korschenbroich is a church building of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland .

history

In September 1953, the presbytery of the Mönchengladbach church district decided to build a church in Korschenbroich . But as early as March 1954, the planned church building developed into the construction of a community center, which should include the church, a school, a kindergarten and a rectory. But since this was too expensive, only a community hall was built.

Pastor Adolf Fellner was elected the first pastor of the new parish on December 28, 1958. In May 1961 he moved into the newly furnished rectory. The organ was inaugurated on August 18, 1968.

architecture

The church entered service on December 19, 1954. The initial idea was to build a community center that would consist of a church, a school, a kindergarten and a rectory. However, this idea was dropped again for financial reasons.

A budget of 112,200 DM was made available for the construction of the church. This amount should also include the complete set-up. Additional costs were covered by donations of DM 2,000. The end result of the construction was an economical, partly incomplete functional building, which had to be made several corrections afterwards.

The two architects, Heinemeier and Göddertz, ultimately prevailed with the construction of a tower, which, however, was made a little smaller.

The outside of the church is made of bricks. At first glance, the Evangelical Church in Korschenbroich looks more like an ordinary house. It consists of a taller building, the tower and a lower building.

In the church there are only chairs, not benches, as in many other churches. You can find a smaller organ which is above the seats where there is an elevation. Beside the altar there is also a piano, a lectern and a water basin. Unusually there is also a projector on one of the walls, with which, for example, song texts can be projected onto the opposite wall.

There is the “evva” youth club and an information office. For younger visitors there is a basketball hoop in front of the church and inside, in the "evva" there is a table football and a pool table.

Various choirs support the services on special holidays and provide additional leisure activities. These include the a cappella choir, the K2 band, the K2 choir, the project choir and the trombone choir.
