The Herz-Jesu-Kirche Korschenbroich in the Herrenshoff district is a church building of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Aachen . The parish of Herz Jesu Herrenshoff is part of the community of communities (GdG) Korschenbroich together with the other four parishes of St. Andreas Korschenbroich , St. Dionysius Kleinenbroich , St. Georg Liedberg and St. Marien Pesch .

history

In the years from 1888 to 1890 a group of Catholic bachelors met weekly at the Schippershof to support the building of a chapel in Herrenshoff. The group began to collect money in their circle and set up a working group. The chapel building association emerged from the committee and also played in favor of the theater building project. Johann Matthias Stumpen provided a suitable building site for the planned chapel. In 1893 the building site had to be transferred to the Korschenbroich parish church.

The civil parish of Korschenbroich requested a development plan and a cost calculation. In 1909, head teacher Vosdellen made a new attempt. Only in 1912 was the building permit granted. The mason Bösch received 27,000 marks for the building contract. The architects of the church building were Wilhelm and Paul Sültenfuß from Düsseldorf . Four days before Christmas Eve 1913, Pastor Otto inaugurated the chapel and celebrated the first high mass. The chapel was built for the “greatest honor of the Triune and Triune God and for the veneration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!” (From the Latin document for the laying of the foundation stone, 1913). The rectory was built around 1925.

The interior was 154 square meters until a new nave was added in 1956. The new nave was built across the previous chapel, so that the central part of the previous chapel now serves as the choir area. The new nave lowers slightly towards the altar island so that the worshipers have a better view of the chancel. The previous portal was bricked up and plastered. The chapel has meanwhile been elevated to a parish church.

In 1981 the two-manual pipe organ was completed and placed in the church. It stands in the choir area of the original chapel. In accordance with the original plan, everything was built except for a planned parsonage and the building of the church ended.

architecture

The church was built in the neo-Gothic style. A tower was neither planned nor built, so the church has only one bell in the roof turret . The glazing and the painting of the walls were adapted to the neo-Gothic style.
