The Catholic St. Dionysius Church in Kleinenbroich belongs to the diocese of Aachen . Its name comes from St. Dionysius of Paris. Opposite the church is the parish office and a catholic library.

history

According to available sources, the oldest owners of Haus Kleinenbroich are said to have built a Maternus church on Neusser Weg, which is said to have been renovated as Dionysius church by Hildegund von Liedberg in 1160 . This church was probably abandoned around 1300 because Kleinenbroich was united with Büttgen at this time .

The first chapel mentioned in Kleinenbroich, dedicated to St. Nikolaus was consecrated, was destroyed in the Truchsessian War in 1584 and then between 1594 and 1599 under the patronage of St. Dionysius rebuilt with funds from the community. In the 18th century this church is said to have claimed parish rights for itself. The official separation from Büttgen did not take place until 1799.

The church from 1594 was demolished in 1873. In 1854 it was decided to build the new church in Kleinenbroich. The neo-Gothic church was built elsewhere according to the plans of the building councilor Vincenz Statz . On May 14, 1868 the foundation stone for the brick building was laid. After the completion of the three-aisled church in 1869, the first service was celebrated in this church in 1870.

It was completely rebuilt after heavy damage from bombing in World War II in 1945. In 1957 all renovation work was completed.

architecture

The church building is made of brick and has the shape of a three-aisled, neo-Gothic basilica with a transept. The west tower is in front.

Bells

In 1884 the church received four bells. In 1917 three bells were melted down for war purposes. With donations and collections from the parishioners, the lost bells could be replaced in 1930. During the Second World War, three bells were melted down again: the old bell from 1884 and two from 1930.

In 1957 four new bells were purchased by the Bochum Association for Cast Steel Manufacture , ceremoniously blessed and hung in the bell tower.

Monument protection

The church was entered on September 10, 1985 in the list of monuments of the city of Korschenbroich with the following text:

Brick, 3-aisled neo-Gothic basilica with transept and western tower in front, main entrance renewed;

Interior fittings: confessionals, stalls, main altar (wood on sandstone canteen), new windows in the choir, renewed organ gallery, neo-Gothic prospectus, contemporary wooden vestibules.

Addendum: In addition to my previously mentioned notification, I hereby also place the side altar (Josef's altar) in the church building under monument protection with immediate effect. The altar erected to worship St. Joseph is a neo-Gothic wood carving. The altar is no longer preserved in its original form. The predella and a large number of ornamental parts are missing. However, the part that has now remained is to be classified as a monument in terms of art history and its importance in terms of local history, especially in connection with the overall complex “Parish Church of St. Dionysius Kleinenbroich”. The Josefs Altar was included in the list of monuments of the city of Korschenbroich, serial no. 045, as part of the “St. Dionysius parish church Kleinenbroich ”.
