The Evangelical Anabaptist Congregation Neuhütten is a Christian free church in Neuhütten in Baden-Württemberg , a district of Wüstenrot . The community belongs to the Federation of Evangelical Anabaptist Congregations (ETG) and has its roots in the New Anabaptist movement of the early 19th century.

history

In the first third of the 19th century, the Swiss pastor Samuel Heinrich Fröhlich, who was inspired by the so-called revival movement , founded the community of evangelical baptismal people (Fröhlichians). From this a movement developed that led to a network of congregations in Switzerland, Germany and Alsace and from which the Evangelical Anabaptist congregation in Neuhütten also emerged.

The history of this community goes back mainly to the two journeymen Johannes Aupperle and Wilhelm Schlipf, who were baptized in Switzerland by cheerful baptismal people. When Aupperle returned from Switzerland in 1855, he began to hold meetings in Neuhütten, which expanded into the community known today. At the beginning, the merry baptismal people were officially regarded as Baptists or Mennonites . It was only over time that they were recognized as an independent group.

The community was by no means homogeneous, however, as early as 1904 a separation took place due to a controversy over the wearing of beards as an alleged expression of militarism. The representatives of this view left Neuhütten. In 1911 the construction of the first parish hall began.

In 1924 another group split off from the church because they expected the return of Christ the following year , which the majority of the church rejected. In 1928 the remaining part founded an association and in the same year began building a new community hall, which was completed in 1931.

After the end of the Second World War, the community expanded due to displaced persons from Yugoslavia . During this economically difficult time they were supported by relief supplies from Switzerland. The number of members continued to grow in the period that followed.

In the 1980s a new independent community was founded in Öhringen / Scheppach .

building

The current parish hall Die Arche was officially opened in 2009. The construction was financed, among other things, by donations from members. The construction period lasted 18 months and the construction costs were EUR 2.5 million. Community members contributed 24,000 hours of personal work. The design comes from Philipp Architects from Schwäbisch Hall.

The parish hall is located on the edge of the forest and is characterized by two structures: the parish hall is located in the gently curved main structure, which is clad with wood both inside and outside, reminding of the ark that gave it its name . A second, lower structure adjoins it at an angle and houses offices and other smaller rooms. The foyer is located at the intersection of the two structures.
