Charlier mausoleum in the Mülheim Evangelical Cemetery

The Evangelical Cemetery Cologne-Mülheim on Bergisch Gladbacher Strasse ( Bundesstrasse 506 ) in the Cologne district of Mülheim on the right bank of the Rhine has existed since the beginning of the 17th century and is therefore one of the oldest preserved cemeteries in Cologne. The site, which is now a listed building, is still used for funerals.

The almost rectangular area was donated by Margrave Ernst to the Reformed congregation of the then independent city of Mülheim in 1612 , with the condition that the Lutheran congregation was also allowed to use the cemetery. The burials were carried out in the new cemetery since around 1614. One of the first graves - Gertrud Tilman's tombstone in the entrance area - has been preserved to this day, as have many elaborate family graves from the Mülheim bourgeoisie from the 18th and 19th centuries, including that of the Charlier family from 1899 (architects Schreiterer & Below ) and that of the Christoph Andreae family . The wall surrounding the cemetery today dates from 1880. The evangelical cemetery in Mülheim has been a listed building since 1981 .
