Example of an EDC

Everyday carry (EDC) refers to items that you carry with you at all times, which are useful in dealing with everyday and even dangerous situations. Typical elements of the EDC are (pocket) knives or multi-tools , pens , flashlights , purses , lighters , watches , cell phones / smartphones and key rings .

EDC items usually fit in a bag, a small backpack, an organizer or are attached to your own clothing. Value is placed on the usefulness, accessibility and reliability of the objects. There are a number of situations for which an EDC is contemplated. These can range from the predictable and mundane to the rare and serious.

The term EDC is also associated with the basic attitude to a constant readiness ( English preparedness, cf. “ always ready ”), which goes hand in hand with the selection and transport of these objects.

The contents of a so-called "bug-out bag" for use after a disaster, a " survival kit " and the "ten essentials", the ten most important items that should be part of the equipment of mountain hikers and other people in the wilderness, overlap on the way.
