SFX (link resolver)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SFX is a link resolver from the Ex Libris Group . Since it is the first link resolver, SFX is sometimes used synonymously for link resolver. The large Ex Libris knowledge base is an argument in favor of SFX as a link resolver . This provides many services that offer electronic full texts or information on their availability as predefined destinations.

SFX also offers additional functions for managing journal licenses.

example

You can use the library portal to research a bibliography while sitting in the library. There you will find a reference to an article in the journal Computer & Libraries . Since the university library has a license for electronic full text for this journal, a direct link to the full text is offered if you press the SFX button next to the proof. If you were to do the same from home, this link would not be offered because you are not authorized to access the journal there.

Technical background

SFX processes information transferred via openURL and delivers a URL to the corresponding document. The main application is the link from the electronic library catalog to the corresponding full texts, if the library in question has a license for this.

A link goes from one database (the source) to another database (the target) by means of a certain service. Sources can be the electronic library catalogs already mentioned, but also databases of tables of contents and other bibliographic databases. Targets represent document servers and linkable full-text databases.
