Link resolver

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A link resolver is a system used in the field of digital libraries to display the availability of scientific publications . The task of a link resolver is to receive metadata (for example in the form of an OpenURL ) and to generate a direct hyperlink to suitable services in connection with information about local inventory data and license information . The services include references to electronic full texts , document delivery services , the local OPAC and bookshops . In the case of direct forwarding by the link resolver to another service, the link resolver takes on the function of a proxy . If instead a selection of services is displayed on an intermediary page, the boundaries to a web portal or a meta search engine can disappear.

Popular commercial systems for link resolvers are Ex Libris SFX and Ovid LinkSolver .
