Der Exberliner is an English-language Berlin city magazine .
It appears monthly, costs 3.90 euros, is available in newspaper shops and bookstores across Berlin and is also offered by street vendors. It can also be subscribed to. It currently has a circulation of 20,000 pieces.
In terms of content, it offers a cultural calendar, program guide, informative journalism, opinions, reviews and a selection of classified ads . Parties or other cultural events (such as readings in English and concerts in the Kaffee Burger ) are organized every month . In addition to the magazine, the ex-Berliner operates a housing agency and a voucher platform.
The target group are mainly foreigners or so-called " expats ", English-speaking Germans, but also tourists.
It was founded in 2002 by three English-speaking journalists, then free of charge and under the name The Berliner . But because this was already a registered brand name, the name had to be changed. Exberliner is a play on words between "expatriate" (English: people living abroad ) and Berlin . " Ex-Berliners should be a mixture of New Yorkers and the Village Voice ."
