Reda Seyam (* 1959 or 1960 in Egypt ) is a German Islamist of Egyptian descent. He is suspected of being involved in the bomb attack in Bali in 2002 and has been involved in the Syrian civil war on the side of the Islamic State since 2013 .

Life

In 1988 he married a woman who later published the story of their marriage under the pseudonym Doris Glück . She wrote that after a few years of marriage, Seyam had become more and more religious and led her to Islam . In 1994 both went to Bosnia-Herzegovina , where Seyam practiced jihad with other Muslims and persuaded his wife to put on a chador . Then he married another woman. Once her husband took her to a mujahideen training camp, where she watched executions . His first wife was accepted into a witness protection program by the BKA , was given a new name, left her apartment and changed her job. Seyam stayed longer in the Balkans during the Bosnian War and produced propaganda videos that glorified mujahideen.

Seyam, who also publicly made no secret of his Islamist views ("According to the Koran, it is okay to be a terrorist. According to the Koran, it is a duty to kill kaffers (infidels)."), Was suspected after 2002 of being one of the backers of the Having been an explosives attack in Bali , in which 202 people died on an amusement strip. In this context he was questioned by the CIA in Indonesia . The BKA then transferred him to Germany in 2003, probably to prevent him from being taken to a secret prison. Seyam was never held accountable in Germany for his activities abroad. He was one of the visitors to the Neu-Ulm multicultural house , which was closed on December 28, 2005 by the Bavarian state government ( Stoiber IV cabinet ).

Seyam lived from 2004 years in Berlin-Charlottenburg of social welfare and produced there propaganda videos for supporters of Salafism . He belonged to the leadership circle of the As-Sahaba / The Companions e. V., who opened the Salafist As-Sahaba mosque in Wedding in 2010 . During this time he also kept in touch with Denis Cuspert (Deso Dogg) . Seyam took legal action to give his son the first name jihad . At first this was granted; then the Berlin Senator for the Interior, Ehrhart Körting, lodged a complaint against it. According to a judgment of September 2, 2009, the son may be called Djehad. The Supreme Court found this to be a common name in the Arab world .

On August 19, 2013, the ARD magazine Report Mainz reported on its website that the “top Islamist” Reda Seyam was active in the Syrian civil war . Video recordings were believed to be real by professionals. According to information from the research network of NDR , WDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung , he was last appointed Minister of Education of the Islamic State under the battle name Dhul Qaranain .

The government of Iraq confirmed his death on December 16, 2014; A news agency had previously reported that he was killed in fighting near Mosul in early December 2014 . In January 2015, it was announced that he was likely still alive.

At the end of July 2018, newspaper reports appeared again, reporting the death of Reda Seyam. He was therefore killed when the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) was driven out of the Iraqi city of Mosul.

As early as 2008, Seyam was enthusiastic about the depiction of acts of violence on the Internet by jihadists for advertising purposes among young people, i.e. using combat videos and "martyr videos":

"We defeated the Americans and their Hollywood visions with their own weapons - the camera."
